To many, sixteen seems
a young age to strike out on one’s own. For me it was the right time.
An innate sense of independence had become the
force that was to define my journey.
Young but confident, I came to Maine and decided then: I knew where I was going to live
- I’d figure out a way to make a living.
Other than proud time spent with The United States Marine Corps and a combat
tour in Vietnam, I have been here ever since.
I started my own business, a business that evolved and refocused over the years
, but served me well as I raised two daughters. When they headed off to college, I returned myself to complete a degree in
Forty plus years in Maine, forty one at the same address,
in the same house, but I remain forever from away.
Nevertheless, I am a Maine writer. I climb her mountains, hike her trails, bike
her byways, paddle her rivers and harbors and drive her highways and coast roads.
I hear the voices of my characters and enter
their worlds. I am drawn to what is the essence of Maine – the purity, the truth and the woven fabric of Yankee values
My writing draws on this and more. Whether born here or not, Maine absorbs you when you absorb Maine.
